President’s Mesage 2011

Dear Friends and Members

I hope this message finds you and your families well and I wish you all to have a prosperous and peaceful year 2011.

Thank you for visiting the JCC OB&GA (UK) (the “Association”) website which is a handy tool for you to send your comments and communicate with other members and friends.

Our Association remains the first JCC OB&GA outside our home land, founded in 1987 and is still going from strength to strength with great support from our members and friends.

As the current President of the Association, I am privileged to serve and assist our College alongside the Hon. Secretary, Mr Harold Alakeson; the Treasurer, Mr V. Shivakumaran and all our Committee Members.

As you all already aware, people in our home land have experienced difficult times during, and continue to experience difficulties after the war in many ways. Unfortunately, this dire state of affairs is expected to continue for some years to come. Our Association is trying its very best to give all the possible support and help to the current students and the immediate community.

The projects we are currently working on;

  1. Scholarship – Continue to support a Scholarship Program for deserving Advanced Level students. This program is in its eleventh year and is being managed by Colombo OBA on our behalf.
  2. Students in Need Project (“SIN”) – Giving financial support to students so as to fulfil basic requirements to continue their education until their 12th year (Advanced Level) in the College. The selected students have been heavily affected by the war. I appreciate the hard work being done by Mr. T. G. Singham and other members on this project.

Our College founded in August 1816 by the two of the missionaries Rev. James Lynch and Rev. Thomas Sequence who arrived from Britain.

From this year onwards, our Committee has decided to have regular annual event, every September to mark the “Founders Day” of our great Alma matter which is the one and only Jaffna Central College. Details will be sent to you every year in time.

I request you all to join the Association as members and take part in the glorious work to serve our College. Only with your continuous support we will be able to make the things happen in our College.

I thank you all for your dedication and many hours of hard work you all put in to keep the Association up and running.

- Central’s Flag must never be lowered -

K. Balakrishnan
President
